Wally's Pizza & Subs History
The Beginning
Tom & Luella Hanes and family established Wally's Old Fashion Pizza
in 1978. The family had little money at the time but decided to proceed
on faith. They had five children ages 8-17 and every family member
worked in the business. The Hanes family made a commitment to produce
traditional old style pizza and make it affordable for customers.
As a result, many friends and a loyal customer base have been
built over the years. Today, Tom & Luella still occupy a home
directly behind the original location in Cambridge, Ohio and remain
actively involved.
What Makes Wally's Different
Wally's traditional old style pizza is unique and begins with home-made
dough, fresh sauce and 100% real provolone cheese that is grated daily.
Customers can purchase the pizza by the slice or by the pan.
Wally's specialty is a 16" square pizza.
The method of preparing the pizza truly differentiates
Wally's. The home-made pizza crust is topped with fresh sauce and baked
in the oven. Once the crust is crispy the pizza is removed from the
oven. At this point, more pizza sauce, the 100% real provolone cheese
and any additional toppings are added then the pizza is returned to the
oven. After all the toppings are cooked, the pizza is brought out of
the oven and cut into squares. Pre-cooked pepperoni r cheese are added
on top of the hot baked pizza.
This traditional way of making pizza may seem unusual at
first, but longtime Wally's customers have said they would not want it
made any other way!
Wally's has been doing pizza this way for nearly 30 years and
continues to use only the best quality food products and yes - it is
still affordable.
This traditional approach is a key reason why Wally's pizza
received the award for The Best Next Day Pizza from The Ohio Magazine.
But making traditional old fashion pizza is not the only specialty at
Wally's. There are over 10 different baked sub sandwiches and several
delicious salads from which to choose.
Moving Forward
The Hanes family is passionate about their faith and business. It is
their hope that many more generations of families will continue to
become loyal Wally's customers through new franchises and ongoing
support of the mission and goals of Wally's Pizza & Subs.
